Do licenses purchased under the Select Program expire when the University’s contract expires?
No. Licenses obtained under a Select Agreement are perpetual.
Do Select licenses come with
concurrency?
No. A license must be purchased for every system that is running a Microsoft program.
Why does
the OS still have an upgrade license and other products do not?
An OEM version of the OS or a full shrink-wrapped version must be owned before an upgrade can be purchase. For example, a Select Upgrade License for the OS cannot be used on a system that the customer builds himself or herself nor can a system be retired and it’s licensed transferred to another system.
If I buy a new system, can I add Assurance to the OEM OS that came on that system?
Yes. Assurance can be purchased within 90 days of an OEM purchase.
Does the Select Program allow for the evaluation of a product before a license is purchased?
Yes. A Select customer has the right to evaluate products for 60 days before purchasing licenses for them. If the license is not purchased within that 60-day period, the product must be uninstalled.
Are licenses purchased under the
Select program downgradeable?
Yes. Downgrading to a previous version is allowed for licenses purchased under Select.
Does media come with Upgrade
Advantage or Software Assurance?
No. Media and documentation are purchased separately under the Select Program.
May I buy one license and install that software on both my laptop and my office machine?
Yes. Microsoft allows a copy of the software to be installed on a portable system for the primary users exclusive use.
